Meet Monica Andrews
Monica is in her third year at Trent University. She is currently studying abroad in Ecuador to further develop her knowledge of International Development but she will be returning to Trent for her fourth year in the 2017/2018 year. During Monica’s first year at Trent, she participated in the Trent Pen Pal Program. In her second year she then took on the position of the Living Learning Community Advisor for Lady Eaton’s Civic Engagement LLC.
Monica decided to take on a leadership role out of the love for her school and her Leadership LLC program. She had received such helpful guidance through her first year at Trent that she wished to do the same for future Trent students. Lady Eaton College felt like home to her and she chose to become a Lady Eaton leader to ensure she could pass that love and support on to others in the college and across campus.
Becoming a leader in the Trent community taught Monica how important it is to guide others and help them grow and discover, within themselves, what they can do to become leaders in their own lives. She learned that being a leader is not about knowing everything but rather being a person who fosters growth and confidence in other people through a listening ear, an empathetic voice, a push of encouragement, and a pep-talk when they need it.
When Monica returns to Trent for her first year, she hopes to push herself further and challenge her leadership skills as she believes there is still much to learn. She will be returning to Trent in search for another leadership position within the Trent community. Once she graduates, she hopes to find an internship program with a non-governmental organization that will allow her to further her own work and knowledge of international development.
